Our History
Town & Country, Inc. is an Illinois corporation with sales and distribution of malt beverage products serving the Northwest Metropolitan area of Chicago and its suburbs.
Town & Country is a true family business. It was established as a Meister Brau distributor in 1953 by Walter Sowa and Jack Rohner. It is currently owned and operated by the son and sons-in-law and now the third generation of founders.
Change has been a key ingredient in the beer business over the years. Town & Country began distributing beer with one truck in an age of full calorie beers, few brands, and returnable bottles. Meister Brau, Chicago's leading regional brand, started experiencing significant growth with the idea of a light beer which they trademarked as “LITE.” The Miller Brewing Company saw this as a great national opportunity and obtained the rights, changing it to Miller Lite. With the addition of Great Taste-Less Filling, the rest was history. As a result, Chicagoland remains one of the strongest Miller markets in the country.
Over the years, Town & Country has adapted to the changing marketplace and grown with the addition of brands like Heineken, Corona, Coors, ciders, and flavored malt beverages. With the emergence of craft beers pioneered by Sam Adams, the business has expanded even further. Today, Town & Country has played a significant role in offering variety and choice to the consumer by adding a large portfolio of specialty brands from Sierra Nevada, Firestone Walker, Abita, and many more. The importance of the local nature of craft continues to grow with brands from Revolution Brewing and many others.
With participation in Alcohol Awareness Education and charitable responsibility as an integral part of our makeup, Town & Country strives to provide our retailers and our community with the highest quality products and service. As over 145 hard working and dedicated employees go about the business of selling beer, we aim to make a difference.
